In this post you can read:

This week, our colleagues David Candil, Head of the Export Department, and José Luis Montañés, Technical and Operations Director, attended the New AG International Conferences, held from 21 to 23 March in Nairobi, Kenya.

The most important companies in the field of added-value products have met in Nairobi to identify the challenges of the agriculture in Kenya and make their proposals through increasingly sustainable fertilization programs. The fact remains that we are not only committed to sustainability in Europe.

Main topics of Agriculture in Kenya:

  1. More than 40 million farmers in Africa are small-scale farmers, with an average plot size of 1.6 ha.
  2. Agricultural work continues to be manual and the horticultural producers are the ones who introduce the added-value products.
  3. Less than 5% of farmers use fertirrigation systems.
  4. Crop yields are very low due to the lack of technology, changing weather conditions and use of very basic inputs.
  5. There has been an increase in the use of organic and biological products.

During the trip to Kenya, they also had the opportunity to see the field tests that our partner Sumitomo Africa is doing with the main producer of beans and broccoli in Kenya.

The results, as we can see, have been quite good, so we will develop this product in more crops in Kenya.

For all the above, we take the opportunity to thank Sumitomo Corporation for its support during the stay of Tarazona in Kenya.
